Group shoot at the Book Depository

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Yesterday some of us went down to shoot in the old Detroit Public Schools Book Depository. Residing next to the old Michigan Central Station, it previously was a postal sorting station or some such. A while back the Detroit Public school district used the building to store textbooks and other materials. I guess someone forgot about the place, and now the roof is caving in, all the windows are broken, water leaks everywhere, and vandals and vagrants have lit fire to many of those soaked, forgotten textbooks.

I will have some photos from the shoot posted in the next few weeks. In the mean time, the group photo is up - http://www.jeffbannow.com/gallery/v/groupshoots/022608/

The End of Polaroid

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

For those who aren’t aware, Polaroid is ceasing production of all film / instant products.  They are planning on making enough to last until next year, although I wouldn’t depend on that.  Fuji still makes instant film in color and black & white in some sizes, but it isn’t very good at emulsion transfer and such.

If you are planning on buying and storing any Polaroid products, remember to refridgerate, never freeze, and it still won’t store for very long.  I know I will miss these products - it seems to get harder every day to stay with film as companies keep abandoning their customers.
